From September 8 to September 19, 2025, the Faculty of Pharmacy in Strasbourg presented an exhibition on the incredible history of aspirin, an event supported by IMS!
Thanks to the work of Alsatian chemist Charles Frédéric Gerhardt, aspirin was first synthesized in 1853 from salicin. Subsequently, acetylsalicylic acid, a more active derivative, was identified. This molecule, extracted from willow bark, has since become one of the most widely used drugs in the world.
The exhibition traced its history and evolution to the present day through numerous period objects: medicine boxes, advertising posters, photos of the scientists who contributed to the development of this drug, and photos of the factories and machines used to produce Aspirin at the time. These scientific developments surrounding this drug are a source of inspiration for our researchers at IMS.
We are truly grateful to the Faculty of Pharmacy for presenting this wonderful exhibition!
